 Summer Day Camp

It's time to register your children for 2005 Camp Desert Star, offered by the Jewish Community Center of the Desert.

The summer day camp-for first- through eighth-graders-will again be held on the grounds of the Jewish Community Day School on Hovley Lane in Palm Desert. Also, Laura Gould will return as Camp Desert Star's director.

Camp Desert Star will operate for 8 weeks from the middle of June to the middle of August. Camp hours are 9 am. to 4 pm for full or part-time campers. The camp also will offer optional extended hours at an additional rate for working parents.

While our camp offers a Jewish content, we welcome any child in the first- through eighth-grade that is a resident of the Coachella Valley. Camp activities will include sports, arts and crafts, reading, swimming at the Palm Desert Athletic Club, and weekly field trips and counselors from Israel.

Camp Desert Star is a great way to keep kids from getting bored during those long summer months. Instead of watching TV all day, they can spend their time playing outdoors and participating in productive, learning activities.

There are a limited number of spaces, so parents are encouraged to apply early. Also, the JCC has some need-based scholarships available on a first-come, first-served basis.

NEW INTEREST GROUPS FORMING

Women’s Roundtable
This ongoing group will be a community of women who meet to explore life issues through stimulating speakers and discussion.

Men’s Club
This ongoing group will bring in stimulating speakers, hearty breakfasts and lively, congenial companions. Members will gather to hear stimulating talks by community leaders from government, business, education, the arts and social action organizations.

JCC Senior Couples Club
We are in the process of creating a Club just for Senior Couples. This self led group will plan it’s own agenda and activities. It is
a time to meet some new friends and have some “good ‘ole” fun.
